Assignments are the main tool for assessing the knowledge and progress of each student and the most challenging part of your first year at uni. If this sounds daunting, think ahead. These helpful tips will ensure you cope with your workload successfully.

1. Get organised
Organising and planning your time will become your two best friends at university. Make a list of the things that need to be done. Once the assignment briefs are up on Weblearn for each module, take a note of them in your calendar. This will give you a clear idea of when submission deadlines are approaching and will let you manage your time better.
2. Find the right balance
Apart from putting efforts into your academic work, you should also enjoy the social and cultural aspects of being a student. Do not stress yourself with excessive studying. Staying focused means giving yourself a rest from time to time.
3. Prepare assignments in advance
This is a good plan if you wish to avoid working on multiple assignments at the same time. If you start early, you’ll have enough time to properly concentrate on each assignment, work at your own pace and produce quality content. Rushing to complete an assignment the night before the deadline is no fun!

4. Attend regularly
Make sure to show up for all classes and keep up with your weekly reading. This will help you build enough knowledge and confidence for your assignments.
5. Never plagiarise
Plagiarism is passing off someone else’s work as your own, either from a published source or the work of another student or person helping you. This is a serious assessment offence. Always cite sources and use quotation marks when quoting. When in doubt, ask.
6. Make a proper study space
It’s no use trying to write papers or prepare for exams in a loud, messy room. Make a dedicated, quiet and organised study space with everything you need for best results.
7. Ask for help
If there is something you don’t understand or need help with, always ask your tutors!
